Dementia is a general term that describes a wide range of symptoms that affect thinking, memory, communication, and social behavior. Anxiety, depression, or sleep issues may be subtle signs of dementia. Or they may be much more overt like confusion, wandering, memory loss, suspicions and delusions. Nevertheless, dementia can completely interfere with your loved one’s daily function. According to the Alzheimer’s Association, Alzheimer’s accounts for 60-80% of dementia cases.

Dementia Care Has Unique Challenges. We Can Help!

Homecare Hero sitting on couch with hand on elderly woman's shoulderDuring the early stages of dementia, your loved one may still live independently. But as dementia progresses, 24-hour supervision and more intensive care will become necessary. At Trusted Hearts, we have Homecare Heroes who understand the unique challenges associated with caring for someone with dementia. They also have specialized training to provide care. Our first priority is making sure mom or dad remains safe. We will assess the level of care needed. Questions may include:

  1. What type of supervision does mom require?
  2. Does dad have health issues that would require specialized care?
  3. Is personal care like bathing, toileting, and dressing needed?
  4. Is mom or dad engaged in socially meaningful activities during the day?

Together, we will create a plan of care that keeps them safe and addresses their Alzheimer’s and dementia care needs.
